In 1967 TVR released their first version of the Tuscan. This model was continued up until 1971. 1999 saw the reintroduction of the TVR Tuscan model, and this is still in production today. The first Tuscan housed a Ford V8 engine that was similar to the one used in the Ford Mustang. This 4.7 litre engine provided 271 brake horse power and an impressive top speed of 155 miles per hour. This version of the Tuscan was built until 1970, when due to falling sales thanks to the release of the V6 version, Production was stopped. This V6 version of the TVR Tuscan was powered by a 3 litre Ford Essex V6, which was also used in the Ford Capri and the Ford Zodiac. By providing a top speed of 125 miles per hour thanks to an exceptional 136 bhp, performance was excellent. Production ended for the first generation of the TVR Tuscan in 1971.
By 1999, the TVR Tuscan was re-released. This generation of car came with 5 different engine options that still offered superb performance. Four of these 5 came with a 4.0 litre TVR Speed Six engine, and the last with a 3.6 litre version. All of these TVR Tuscans had a very low weight of only 1100kg, meaning that with any of these engines the power output could be used very well. The power form these engines ranged from 350 bhp to 400 bhp in the Tuscan S.
The later version saw several minor modifications to both the chassis and the general aesthetics of the car. By 2003, the TVR Mark 2 Tuscan had seen changes to the front and rear lights, the dashboard and the spoilers. The chassis alternations were included to both improve handling and too add roof options. At this point TVR designed a new full soft top version, alongside the traditional Targa roof version.
