TVR Tasmin Waterproof Half Covers
1981 saw the release of the TVR Tasmin. This wedge design sports car, designed by Oliver Winterbottom, was produced between 1981
and 1988. Only 61 of the Tasmin were ever produced;During 16 coupes and
45 convertible versions. The Tasmin came about from the famous M Series of TVR cars. As production of these drew to a close, TVR needed another popular car to take their place. The M Series was used as a starting point for the Tasmin, with a few subtle differences being that the Tasmin was slightly longer and had a sturdier chassis. The
initial Tasmin model to be produced, known as the 280i, was powered by the Ford Cologne
V6 engine. This engine gave 160 brake horse power and had a capacity of
2.8 litres. Many of the components for the modelcame from Ford as well as hte engine, such as the suspension, steering and brakes, which came from the Ford Granada. The Tasmin made history for TVR, as it is the only TVR that came with an automatic gearbox option.
The performance of hte Tasmin has never been it's best selling point, with the design being the first characteristic of the car to get it noticed. The 280i had a top speed of 130 miles
per hour, with an acceleration of 0-60 mph of just less than 8 seconds. The model with the automatic gearbox this increased to just over 8.2 seconds. TVR also released theTasmin as the 200i. This model included a Ford Pinto Straight-4 engine with a
2.0 litre capacity and produced a brake horse power of 101. TVR released this car to be a more affordable version. The top speed of this TVR was 110 mph,
with an acceleration of 0-60 miles per hour of 9.0 seconds.
