The TVR Sagaris was the first of many
new and fresh designs to leave the TVR factory at the start of the 21st
century. The Sagaris was first introduced at the MPH Motor Show in
2003, and again at the Birmingham Motor Show the following year. After
a positive greeting at these events, the Sagaris was released for sale
in 2005. As with many TVR cars, the name Sagaris comes from Greek
Mythology. Sagaris is the name for the battle-axe used by the
Scythians; known for its power at piercing armour. The design for this
new car was developed from the successful TVR T350. Many racing
features were included, such as those designed for cooling and
maintaining the car over long distances.
The Sagaris is
powered by a TVR 4.0 litre Speed Six engine in a straight-6
configuration. This provides an impressive 380 brake horse power.
Combining this with the incredibly lightweight body and chassis,
weighing in at only 1078 kg, the power of this 2-door coupe is easily
felt. This TVR designed engine gives a top speed of 190 mph, with an
acceleration of 0-60 mph in only 3.7 seconds.
Like all modern
TVR production cars, it does not include the usual standard safety
features of modern cars. Additions such as ABS brakes and airbags do
not feature in the Sagaris as Peter Wheeler, the then owner of TVR,
believed that they promoted overconfidence and encouraged irresponsibly
driving. The Sagaris 2 was unveiled by TVR in 2008, showing several
minor changes to the original Sagaris. This car is intended to replace
the current model, and has changes in the rear fascia and exhaust
systems, as well as changes to the interior layout and finishing in the
car.
