TVR M Series1971 saw the release of the M Series from TVR. This model range was the last of the classic sports cars to produced by TVR before the intoriduction of the contraversial ‘Wedge’ style sports car. This was a rather unpopular and the early 1990s saw TVR move back to the more traditional clean lines and elegant shapes. The M Series was first seen at the Earls Motor Show in 1971 and its beautiful appearance and impressive specifications. Originally the M Series should have been a coupe with three different engine options. During developemnt this became three different body designs for the TVR with one engine from another automobile company, with a turbo option also available.

Originally, the M Series was based on a modified chassis from a TVR Tuscan. This came about following the personal development from a TVR dealer called Mike Bigland. He put a larger engine into his own Tuscan to increase performance but found that modifications were required for the chassis to be more stable at higher speeds and with increased power. His modifications were later used by TVR during their development of the M Series. This improved strength and stability massively, giving an exceptional drive and superb performance. Similarities between the Tuscan and the M Series were easy to see, but some differences included a longer body that allowed for additional room for the luggage compartment. As usual, several components were taken from other cars, such as the Ford Zodiac and Cortina, which provided the air intakes and rear lights. Some M Series cars from TVR also used lights from the Triumph TR6.

One major desirable part of owning an M Series TVR was teh inclusion of a range of features as standard. Such additions included alloy wheels, laminated windscreen, rear reversing lights, sun roof and a radio. The range of M series models included the 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, 3000S, the Taimar and a selection of Turbos.
