TVR M Series Lightweight Breathable Car Covers
In 1971 TVR introduced the world to their newest model; the The M Series. The model was first seen at the Earls Motor Show, and is known as the last
of the classic sports cars produced by TVR before they made the move in the 1980s to the Wedge design for their sports cars. Many different models of the M Series we produced, despite the original intention to be only one body design with three different engine options. After lots of debate this became three different body designs for the TVR with one
engine, with an additional turbo option also available. The engine that supplied the power for teh M Series for TVR was a Ford 3.0 litre V6 engine. This engine gave both power and reliability to the car. By combining this with the TVR trademark of a fibreglass body, the M Series were lightweight, agile and very good to drive.
The original design for the M Series came from the TVR Tuscan. Mike Bigland, a TVR dealer from the Midlands, developed his own modified Tuscan chassis following his developement of an improved engine. By placing a more powerful engine into his Tuscan he discovered that the chassis required more strenght. His modifications were later used for the M Series by TVR as it added superb stability to the car as a whole. The resulting TVR model obviously had some similarities in the structure of the body, with changes
such as lengthening the body that allowed for luggage space in the
small boot area. Like many TVR cars, several components were taken from other cars, such as
the Ford Zodiac and Cortina. The components used from these carsr included the air intakes and rear
lights. Later versions in the M Series used lights from the Triumph TR6.
By the end of 1979 many differnet models has been released in the M Series by TVR. The attraction to these cars included a range of 'added extras' that are now standard on most cars. These included alloy wheels, reversing light, heated rear windscreen, sun roof and a radio. The range of M series models
included the 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, 3000S, the Taimar and a selection of
Turbos.
