The M Series from TVR were the last of the classic sports cars produced by TVR before the development of the ‘Wedge’ style sports car. The M Series became a collection of impressively designed cars that were produced between 1971 and 1979. The model was first seen at the Earls Motor Show in 1971 and gained lots of attention. At the beginning of the run, the M Series was intended to be a coupe with three different engine options. This evolved into three different body designs for the TVR with one dedicated engine, with an additional turbo option also available.
The design for the M Series followed on from the TVR Tuscan. This TVR model bore some similarities in the structure of the body, with modifications such as lengthening the body that allowed for luggage space in the small boot area. Several components were taken from other cars, such as the Ford Zodiac and Cortina, which provided the air intakes and rear lights. Future cars used lights from the Triumph TR6. The changes to the chassis came about following development done by a TVR dealer Mike Bigland. He modified a TVR Tuscan to accommodate a larger engine and redesigned the chassis to cope with the extra power. Many of these changes were added to the new chassis design for the M Series. This provided greater rigidity for the TVR, stabilising the ride at high speeds and during acceleration.
Most of the M Series models were powered by a Ford 3.0 litre V6 engine. Each M Series model was seen as advanced for its time thanks to the inclusion of several features such as alloy wheels, sun roof and a radio. The range of M series models included the 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, 3000S, the Taimar and a selection of Turbos.
