TVR Griffith Waterproof Half Covers
TVR first released the Griffith in 1991 following the company being bought by the late Peter Wheeler. The Griffith proved highly successful and production ran until 2002. The Griffith was originally planned to be built around the 4.0 litre Rover V8 engine. This provided a reasonable 240 brake horse power, but TVR wanted more! An upgrade option was quickly incorporated into the TVR Griffith line-up which was built using a 4.3 litre Rover V8 with 280 bhp. 1993 saw a redeveloped the Rover V8 into a 5.0 litre capacity, high performance engine. This provided the Griffith with a stunning 340 brake horse power. The TVR Chimaera was a similar car to the Griffith and often seen as its sister model. The differences were mainly in the aesthetics of the car, mostly in the bodywork and lights.
In line with other TVR’s the boy of the Griffith is built from fibreglass. This maintains a very low weight of the body, improving the performance of the car greatly. Due to its popularity, TVR released several version of the Griffith. These included some limited and special editions, such as the Blackpool B340. This TVR model was featured in the Gran Turismo video games, increasing its exposure to around the globe. Due to this, the car sold out in countries such as Japan at a remarkable rate.
By the end of 2000, TVR announced that the Griffith would cease production by the end of 2002. In order to celebrate this much loved car, TVR planned the release of 100 special edition models. The Griffith SE (special edition) used components from other cars, such as the dashboard form the Chimaera, and new and improved mirrors and lights. Each of these special edition cars were individually numbers, represented with a plaque on the interior and several unique badges around the car.
