TVR GriffithThe TVR Griffith was the first in a long line of impressive sports cars to be produced under the watchful eye of late owner Peter Wheeler. Production of the Griffith began in 1991, with the final car being completed in late 2002. Originally the Griffith  was designed around the 4.0 litre Rover V8 engine, which produced an impressive 240 brake horse power. TVR quickly introduced an optional upgrade to a 4.3 litre version that gave just over 280 bhp in 1992. In 1993 TVR had completed development of their version of a Rover V8 with a 5.0 litre capacity. This engine produced a remarkable 340 brake horse power that certainly attracted attention. As with all other TVR models, the body of the Griffith was made from lightweight fibreglass to keep the weight down, increasing performance.

Several version of the Griffith were released by TVR. The special edition ‘Blackpool B340’ was featured in the highly popular video games Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2, leading to the car actually selling out quickly in Japan. During 2000, TVR announced plans to finish production and continue that of the Chimaera. The TVR Chimaera was a similar car to the Griffith and often seen as its sister model. The only differences between the two were in body design, and the fact that less of the Griffith were produced. Following the announcement, a limited run of 100 Special Edition (SE) models were produced. The Griffith SE was a slight hybrid between several TVR Griffith models and the TVR Chimaera, with different dashboards and the seats from the TVR Cerbera. Other modifications included different rear lights, door mirrors and wheel size. As they were a limited edition, plaques were included in each car to indicate build number.

The Griffith is well known as a well balanced performance sports car, and this is reflected in the high prices that second hand Griffith models can still demand. It is also very popular with owners, who have their own club and hold events to celebrate the TVR Griffith. There are also a number of online communities for TVR Griffith owners, reflecting the love that many people have for these magnificent cars.
