The TVR Chimaera is a stunning example of a touring sports vehicle produced in the UK that sold exceptionally well between 1992 and 2003. The name Chimaera was chosen deliberately by TVR as the vehicle was something of a fusion of various fixtures, fittings and engineering from other models, primarily a V8 engine from Rover and the chassis of a Griffith. This chassis was modified slightly in order to make it more comfortable inside and suitable for touring and the vehicle we now know as the TVR Chimaera was born. In order to facilitate a more comfortable ride TVR also softened the vehicles suspension allowing the Chimaera to be used on exceptionally long journeys where stiff racing suspension is not an option.
As one might expect even though the suspension was relatively soft the Chimaera was still a very responsive and sprightly vehicle and kept completely true to the TVR mission statement. One thing that endeared the TVR Chimaera to a whole generation of motorists was the addition of a number of more luxurious fixtures and fittings that allowed the driver and passenger to be more comfortable. These include air conditioning, rear speakers and CD-changer, heated seats and even power assisted steering, something that was unique amongst all TVR vehicles to the Chimaera at the time. The TVR Chimaera won the hearts and minds of a whole generation of motorists and it remains a modern classic.
