The TVR Chimaera was designed by the company from the outset to utilise components taken from a number of other existing cars, hence the vehicles name. From 1992 to 2003 the TVR Chimaera proved to be exceptionally popular selling many units and becoming something of an icon for the brand. At a very basic level the TVR Chimaera was a combination of the Griffith chassis and the Rover V8, however it was somewhat modified in order to make the vehicle longer in order to facilitate greater comfort on long journeys. This comfort was vital as the Chimaera was designed by TVR to be the companies flagship tourer.
Even though it was designed as a tourer and as such the suspension was loosened somewhat to allow for a comfortable ride it was still stiff enough to allow the TVR Chimaera to be competitive as a racing vehicle and the car provided a great deal of feedback to the driver. Since the vehicle was designed as a tourer it featured a number of fixtures and fittings that were not usually found on cars produced by TVR such as power assisted steering, once again included on the Chimaera in order to allow the driver to relax into long journeys. Other fittings included air conditioning, a CD auto-changer complete with rear speakers and heated seats for cold days.
