TVR CerberaThe Cerbera was an innovative car for TVR. As the third car to be produced under owner Peter Wheeler, the car led many developments in both design and engineering to produce an elegant, sporty, high performance car. The TVR Cerbera was certainly a desirable model of the TVR, with production running from 1996 to 2003. The Cerbera was originally launched in 1994 at the Birmingham Motor Show, where it was very well received. The new design features from the TVR Cerbera included the first ever hard-top TVR. The Cerbera was the first 2+2 coupe released by TVR, providing two additional seats in the rear of the vehicle. These seats were slightly smaller than the front ones,, leading to a design feature in the front passenger seat. This seat could be moved further forward than the driver’s seat, freeing up more room to the rear. TVR infamously referred to this as a ‘3+1’ as one rear seat passenger could gain a little more room by moving the seats in this way!

The most noticeable difference in the new TVR Cerbera was the inclusion of the first, TVR built engine. Following the sale of rover, a company that had previously supplies engines for TVR, Wheeler decided it was a much safer option to build their own engines, incase engine models were discontinued by the suppliers. Following painstaking design, the first TVR engine was born. The first engine had a 4.2 litre, 360 horse power 75-degree V8 with a flat-plane crank. Combined with the lightness of the car, this produced a superb sports car, with excellent power and handling. The following engine was a 4.5 litre engine which gave 420 brake horse power. TVR went on to develop their engine range further, with the hope to supply other manufacturers in the future.

The Cerbera was developed with numerous unique features including a custom dashboard.  The steering wheel was also redesigned from three spurs to two spurs to improve visibility of the dials and instruments that surround the steering wheel. This celebrated model from Cerbera finally saw the end of production in 2003, however, owner and chairman Nikolay Smolensky released a one off model in 2006 to be sold on an online auction. Dubbed ‘The Last Cerbera’, the car was sold for £45,000.
