Unique in the usual field of cars produced by Porsche, the Cayenne is a 5 seat mid-size SUV offering the type of luxury that you expect in an upmarket sports car. Manufactured since 2002, the Cayenne incorporates components from Volkswagen, for example the frames and doors which are those from the Volkswagen Touareg. Other components are uniquely Porsche. Powered by a 3.6 litre VR6 engine that boasts 290 horse power, it offers great performance from a mid-sized vehicle.
There are several different variants, starting with the Porsche Cayenne S. This is powered by an eight-cylinder engine and offers a top speed of 155 mph. The Porsche Cayenne GTs boasts a 4.8 litre V8 engine and an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S use many Porsche technological advancements to offer superb performance, including theautomatic Tiptronic 6 speed gearbox.
Porsche have also developed a hybrid vehicle in the Cayenne range that they are hoping to release before 2010. The car boasts an electric vacuum pump and hydraulic steering pump to enable the driver to use the car with the engine deactivated. Power is also stored in a 288-volt nickel metal hydride battery that can be found under the boot floor. The Cayenne Hybrid from Porsche will offer more power and performance than regular hybrid vehicles.
