Porsche Boxster Waterproof Half Cover
Developed from its predecessor the 986, the Porsche Boxster was the first to be designed purely as a roadster and not as reinventions of a pre-existing hard-topped coupe. The name Boxster was used by Porsche to represent firstly the car’s ‘boxer’ (horizontally opposed) engine and its development of a purely roadster vehicle. Introduced in 1996/1997 the first Porsche Boxster was powered by a 2.5 litre six cylinder engine, updated to a 3.2 litre in 2000 with the Boxster S. 2005 saw the development of the next generation Boxster inspired by the Porsche Carrera GT and known during production as the 987.
The Porsche Boxster has been developed since the 986 to use the new water cooling method rather than traditional air cooling to reduce noise and increase performance as demanded by enthusiasts. As the Boxster is a mid-engine sports car it became the first non-rear engine car to use this innovative water-cooled system. The benefits of a mid-engine power system can be seen well in the Porsche Boxster, with its low centre of gravity and near perfect weight distribution the handling of the car is noted by all who drive them.
Like all Porsches, a limited edition was produced, marking the 50th anniversary and was known as the Porsche 550 Spyder. Appropriately, only 1953 cars were produced, and all painted in Porsche GT Silver Metallic with wither a unique coca leather or natural grey interior. Several options were available, lower sports suspension, unpainted 18” Carrera wheels. As always, a centre console plate marked the limited edition nature of the vehicle.
