Porsche 964 Heavy duty Waterproof Car Cover
Although the Porsche 964 is actually just an internal company name for the 911 it has been referred to by its company moniker for many years to seperate it from other models of 911 produced in other years. The Porsche 964 had something of a short life, being produced from just 1989 through to 1993, however by many it is seen as the first "modern" 911 and when the design of the vehicle is viewed it is easy to understand why it is considered so. A number of changes to the 911 were made in the Porsche 964 that departed from traditional aesthetics yet are still improved upon in current model 911's. The Porsche 964 was the first model of the 911 that was available with an automatic transmission designed by Porsche themselves, and it was also the first 911 that was available with a full four wheel drive system.
When it was sold to the public the 964 was marketed as either a Carrera 2 or Carerra 4, and the first model that was available was the AWD Carerra 4, the Carerra 2 being a real wheel drive version of the Porsche 964. Porsche sold the 964 in a tremendous variety of styles allowing owners to truly feel as though they have picked a vehicle perfect for them without having to make any compromises, from coupe to cabriolet to targa, all were available for purchase. The Porsche 964 was also the last generation of vehicle sold by the company to feature the target roof before it was replaced with the more modern glass roof on the 993. The Porsche 964 in its later iterations featured a 3.6 litre naturally aspirated engine with stiff, new suspension, new shocks and coil springs.
By 1994 Porsche had also released the Caererra RS in Europe, a lighter rear wheel drive 964. This version was popular in racing thanks to its sleek, stripped out design that was devoid of any luxury, even sound proofing and a stereo! The Porsche 964 was
released as a turbo versionin 1990, and the Turbo S LM-GT was released in 1993. This highly tuned model was developed by Porsche just for motorsports. By 1992 the market had spoken and a soft top version was released to much acclaim, closely followed by a US only roadster in 1993.
