Porsche 928 Lightweight Breathable Car Cover
By 1978 Porsche took the decision to increase the line-up that they offered for sale to the public and it was concluded that Porsche needed a luxury grand tourer on their books. The 928 from Porsche filled just this gap by offering fantastic performance coupled with comfortable touring capabilities. The 928 was originally launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1977. Initially sales were low due to the high price of the vehicle and the fact that Porsche had departed somewhat from their traditional and iconic styling. At this time the 911 became the more popular car at the time as it stuck to the beautiful styling that made Porsche and the 911 range famous.
The design of the 928 allowed the company to make several innovations and changes to the way in which they usually design their cars. Rather than the usual of having most components cramped in the rear of the vehicle Porsche were able to spread out many components such as the catalytic converter, engine and transmission. Initial plans for the 928 also included to use a 5.0 litre V8 but due to the continuing oil crisis Porsche compromised on a 4.5 litre V8 tat offered both excellent performance and improved economy.
Several models of the Porsche 928 were produced. A popular, and expensive, model was the 928 S which became the fastest car to sell across North America. As the fasted road car produced in 1986 the 928 reached an impressive 172 mph across the Utah salt flats.
