Porsche 356 Lightweight Breathable Car Cover
Rolling off the production line as Porsche’s first ever production car in 1948, the Porsche 356 is one of the most sought after classic Porsche cars. With incredible styling and availability in both a soft-top and hard-top the 356 is loved by collectors all over the world. In addition to beautiful aesthetics the handling of the 356 is second to none thanks to the combination of a short wheel base, rear wheel drive and lightweight body.
The initial power plant of the Porsche 356 was a four cylinder, rear mounted and air cooled engine designed in a similar fashion to the engine found in the Volkswagen Beetle, thanks to the design influence of Ferdinand Porsche senior. To ensure that the 356 was a success in terms of a production model and to maintain low production costs a number of Volkswagen parts were used in the first production cars until the Porsche 356 was developed into a luxury sports car. One established as a performance and desirable vehicle in the early 1950’s, the Porsche and Volkswagen shared very few parts.
Just 50 cars were produced on the first production run, with these 50 luxury sports vehicles now being the prize possessions of few lucky collectors. Thankfully for the rest of us, production ran up until 1965 with a grand total of nearly 76,000 of the Porsche 356 being produced. The design of such an energetic and revolutionary luxury sports car such as the 356 has stood the test of time with an amazing estimate of approximately half of the cars still road worthy and enjoyed by motoring enthusiasts around the world.
