Description:
Rumours continue to abound that Lotus will be unveiling a new Esprit, however if the blogosphere is to be believed we could see the concept unveiled at the forthcoming 2010 Paris Motor Show in September. The Esprit is a classic design that is well known and loved by many so if Lotus were to tackle a 21st century interpretation of the vehicle they would have to be sure to get it right first time around otherwise the new design would quickly loose favour with a demanding public. We are also left wondering where it will fit into the current Lotus line-up, thanks to the addition of the Evora there appears to be little room for a very high performance vehicle, unless they were aiming to tackle the £100,000 supercar market.

Lotus' most recent press release does not exactly confirm that the new Esprit will be unveiled in September but waxes lyrical about the past and reminds readers that it is thirty-five years since the original model was released. With new CEO Dany Bahar seemingly keen to explore a more luxurious type of vehicle this could prove the perfect opportunity for Lotus to take on a new market with a new Esprit and we remain excited but somewhat apprehensive about the idea. We understand that any new Esprit could be offered as both a coupe and convertible, and Lotus will try hard to retain the classic wedge shape that made the original vehicle so famous.

If Lotus do move squarely into supercar territory with the new Esprit we can't help but feel that this is possibly the worst time to do so. With Aston Martin's line-up looking stronger than ever thanks to the DB9 and DBS, Ferrari offering up the F430, Lamborghini working hard on the Gallardo, Porsche continuing to turn heads with the 911 and newcomers Audi making record sales with their R8 we are left wondering how well a new Lotus Esprit will perform. Jokes about Norfolk aside the company clearly has the engineering expertise to pull this off (their Evora has turned quite a few heads and has helped push Lotus into new markets) there is no denying that Lotus will still have an uphill struggle on their hands.

Still, we with Lotus all the best with their new Esprit and await the unveiling at Paris with a keen sense of anticipation. As usual as soon as retail options are announced you can expect a full range of car covers to be sold on Just Car Covers for any lucky owners of the new vehicle.
