 The Mazda RX-8 is a successful 4 seat sports vehicle produced since 2001 and a direct successor to the RX-7. Like almost all vehicles in the RX range it is powered by a rotary engine, and in 2004 it was launched in America. The Mazda RX-8 is the continuation in a long line of rotary engined vehicles offered for sale in both the US and various other markets, and by the time the RX-8 was launched people were fully aware of the capabilities of the rotary engine. Mazda once again have delivered an uncompromising sports vehicle that is rotary powered and has been met with excellent reviews in general.
The development of the Mazda RX-8 began almost six years before its launch date, the RX-01 concept vehicle was the earliest design of what we now recognise as the RX-8. Mazda utilised a very early version of their 13B-MSP engine to power this concept vehicle. Unfortunately the global sentiment at the time was leaning towards larger vehicles and the RX-8 was placed on the backburner but kept alive by researchers at Mazda for many years. Eventually after many management decisions and much redevelopment and rebranding the vehicle finally was put into production in 2003 at the Hiroshima plant in Japan. Aside from some minor detailing and a few simple changes the vehicle remained largely unchanged from its initial concept.
One unique feature of the Mazda RX-8 is that it features a full four seats, Mazda spent a long time researching and develping the RX-8 in order to make the most of the space that is available making it a true four seat two door sports vehicle. The font mid engine mounting ensures that near perfect 50:50 weight distribution is attained and the weight is carefully trimmed out by varying the construction materials in the chassis and bodywork. Whilst the RX-8 does not match the sheer performance of the RX-7 that it replaced it makes up for it in space and luxury thanks to the full four seats. It has continued the tradition of earning a large number of accolades and awards and has gained a reputation as an excellent car for modifying after purchase with both motoring enthusiasts and pro-tuning companies.
