Mazda RX-4 Lightweight Breathable Car Covers

The Mazda RX-4 (or Luce Rotary as it is sometimes referred to as) was a vehicle sold by the Mazda company in the 1970's and it saw much success in various regions of the globe. The RX-4 set itself apart from other rotary engined vehicles that had come before in that it was much bigger than previous designs, whilst it utilised the chassis from the 929 (or the Luce as it is more commonly known) it was in fact a very different Mazda car and it went on to totally replace the R130 after 1972. Eventually Mazda opted to replace the RX-4 with the Luce Legato but this new vehicle was never sold in the US the Mazda MX-4 actually continued to be sold in America for some time after it was unavailable in other areas.

In producing the Mazda RX-4 the company adopted a whole new marketing tactic; rather than emphasising the pure sporty nature of the vehicle or the pure luxury and comfort they adopted a "best of both worlds" approach by informing consumers that no compromise was taken and the RX-4 was truly a sporty high performing comfortable car that was just at home as a tourer than as a sports vehicle. This move helped redefine Mazda as a brand and to create a new image that has continued through to the RX-8 and RX-9 today. Initially Mazda launched a hardtop coupe and regular sedan version of the RX-4 but due to popular demand they developed a station wagon that was launched in 1973.

The powerful 12A Wankel rotary engine that drove the Mazda RX-4 could output 130 horsepower however it was a heavy unit so the extra horsepower did not compensate for the extra weight. In order to compensate for this a smaller, more compact 13B unit was installed that cut horsepower down to 125 but was much lighter so offered better performance and also lower emissions. By 1976 Mazda had decided to restyle the body shape of the RX-4 in order to modernise the design and ensure it was at the cutting edge of automotive manufacturing.
