Mazda RX-4 Heavy Duty Waterproof Car Covers

mazdarx-41.jpgThe Mazda RX-4 (also known as the Luce Rotary in various markets including in Japan) was sold throughout the 1970's and was unique in that it was a much larger vehicle than all other cars that had been previously powered by the rotary engine. Whilst the Mazda RX-4 utilised the chassis from the Luce/929 it was very much a distinct and seperate vehicle and completely eclipsed and replaced the popular R130 in 1972. Since neither the R130 and the vehicle that replaced the RX-4, the Luce Legato, were never offered for sale in the US the RX-4 went from strength to strength in America and continued to sell well after other markets had began to slow.

Mazda carefully sculpted a brand image for the RX-4, highlighting how luxurious yet still sporty the vehicle could be, it was seen as a true "best of both worlds" car with not a hint of compromise. The RX-4 sold so well that it helped put Mazda on the automotive map in many countries and also helped raise awareness regarding the Wankel rotary engine that was unique to the company. Various versions of Mazda RX-4 were available, it was initially launched as a hardtop coupe and also a sedan, however a larger station wagon version was launched in 1973 to fill a market that had opened up with the retirement of the Savanna Wagon.

A 12A engine powered the vehicle and was capable of outputting 130 horsepower, however this was replaced by the 13B that could output 125 horsepower and this latter engine was marketed as an "anti-pollution" powerplant that improved economy and emissions. In 1976 Mazda chose to redesign the body shape of the RX-4 by bringing it up to date and making it more contemporary than what it had been previously. Throughout its life the Mazda RX-4 has proved popular with motorists, enthusiasts and industry insiders alike and many reviews were published that praised the new car for its fuel economy and price compared to previous Mazdas.
