Mazda 929 Waterproof Half Covers
The Efini MS-9 (or Mazda 929 as it is more commonly known) was created in the 70's and sold well for the Mazda company until it was discontinued in the 90's; for three decades it was exceptionally popular with motorists across the world. The Mazda 929 existed in a variety of different guises; primarily it was designed as a smaller family vehicle that would tackle the mid sized car market, however it was later redesigned from scratch as a larger sized vehicle in an effort to allow Mazda to enter a different market. Introduced in 1973 the 929 was intended as a replacement for the Luce; a 1.8 litre 83 horsepower engine drove the vehicle but this initially proved underpowered.
In 1975 Mazda fixed the problems with the 929 being underpowered by fitting a new 2.0 litre 1.3 horsepower engine, and offering an option of a 127 horsepower 13B Wankel rotary powerplant for those who desired even more performance. The initial models of the Mazda 929 were offered for sale as coupe, sedan and also a large station wagon version. In 1980 Mazda also offered a larger 2.2 litre diesel engine for sale, adding more to the already vast series of options that were available for the vehicle. In 1981 a brand new generation of Mazda 929 was released as an export version of the popular Luce. Neither the turbo version of the Mazda 929 and the saloon
were never offered for sale in the EU although some people chose to
import the vehicle from Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
The Mazda 929 was updated with a new 3.0 litre V6 engine in 1986, and this version proved so popular and people demanded the power so much that it continued right through until 1991. This large engine and cheaper price placed the Mazda 929 as a market leader in the US when some other vehicles dropped out of the running. The final and most modern revision of the Mazda 929 included new features such as anti-locking brakes, ventilated disc brakes and various styling changes to reflect the new identity Mazda was trying to create for the car. Eventually the Mazda 929 was replaced by the Millenia as
the companies leading affordable sedan.
