Mazda 929 Lightweight Breathable Car Covers

mazda9291.jpgThe Mazda 929, or Efini MS-9 as it is sometimes known in various markets across the globe was a popular car produced and sold by the company for the duration of the 1970's. It proved a timeless design that continued until the 1990's with relatively few modifications, cementing the Mazda 929 firmly into automotive history. The Mazda 929 was born of the concept that the company needed a new mid sized vehicle suitable for use by the whole family, however later versions of the car were altered making the 929 a true full sized car that shared a chassis with the popular Mazda Luce. A 1.8 litre engine provided 83 horsepower, somewhat on the low side but economical nonetheless.

A larger 103 hp 2.0 litre engine was quickly developed in order to help fix some of the shortcomings of the earlier vehicle and this was rolled out in 1975 making the Mazda 929 much more competitive. There was also a choice of a 127 hp Wankel rotary engine that was not a major success as many customers were still wary of purchasing a vehicle powered by this as yet unproven rotary power plant.  In 1980 the Mazda 929 line was expanded further and a choice of a 2.2 litre diesel engine was offered, and in 1981 a whole new Mazda 929 was launched that fulfilled the role of an export version of the Luce. This new Mazda 929 was available as either a sedan or estate and although it was never sold in the EU it proved popular as an import vehicle.

The mid 80's saw a number of relatively major changes to the Mazda 929 such as the introduction of a 3.0 litre V6 engine that helped revitalise the brand somewhat. The combination of Mazda 929 and this powerplant proved difficult to resist for many and it continued to be sold well through the decade until the early 1990's until it was finally discontinued. The fact that Mazda sold the 929 at such an affordable price allowed the vehicle to pave the way in the US, so much so that various other manufacturers felt they could not compete and did not produce vehicles that would be targetted towards the same demographic as the 929.

Just before the vehicle was discontinued Mazda unveiled a high spec version of the vehicle that proved popular with motoring enthusiasts and collectors. This new car featured 24 valves that resulted in a smoother running more reliable engine and also boosted fuel economy. Mazda also introduced a large number of new technologies in this new 929 such as anti locking brakes, disc brakes that were fully ventilated and a number of new styling changes designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency. When Mazda stopped producing the 929 they focused their efforts on its direct replacement; the Millenia.
