Lotus Elise Lightweight Breathable Car Covers
 Named from the granddaughter ‘Elisa’ of Lotus chairman Romano Artioli, the Elise is certainly the most famous of the Lotus models and has been popular in many countries worldwide since its production in 1996. The Lotus Elise is a classic 2 door roadster that travels at speeds in the region of 150 mph. The first cars to be produced were the Series 1 Elise. This vehicle weighed in at just 725 kg, again conforming to the tradition of Lotus that their cars should be lightweight and agile; over 500 kg lighter than its closest competitor the Porsche Boxster. Such little weight gave the car exceptional handling, fantastic fuel consumption rates and high performance braking. All of these features together produced a car that was high in demand by sports car fans around the world.
All models of the Lotus Elise have comprised of a lightweight aluminium chassis combined with a handmade fibreglass shell, adding to the superb weight of the car. Lotus produced a limited edition of the Series 1 Elise known as the 111S. When it was introduced in 1999 the 111S was powered by a Rover VVC K-series engine with 143 bhp. In addition, a closer ratio gearbox and several aesthetic improvements made the Elise 111S into a very desirable car.
The Series 2 Elise was announced by Lotus in 2000 and was based on the Series 1 model with several design changes. In order to keep lower production costs, Lotus built the Series 2 Elise at the same plant as the Vauxhall VX220, with both cars sharing some components. Again, an 111S model was released with the VVC engine. An 111R model of the Series 2 Elsie was also produced for North America with a 6 speed gearbox and an engine offering an impressive 189 bhp.
