As a more luxurious model of the highly popular Ford Zephyr, the Zodiac has many fans around the world. The Ford Zodiac was produced from 1953 up until 1966 with 3 different editions plus an exquisite Executive that offered the ultimate in luxury for fans of the Ford Zodiac and Ford Zephyr. In 1953 Ford presented the Zodiac at the London Motor Show, demonstrating the extras that turned the Zephyr into a highly desirable car. With two-tone paint, whitewall tyres and beautiful tail stylings, the Ford Zodiac was instantly recognisable as an upmarket car. The first version of the Zodiac, the Mark I was produced up until 1956, with 22,000 built. The Staight-6 engine provided 71 bhp that gave an acceleration from 0-60 mph of 20.2 seconds.
The Ford Zodiac also featured several new and innovative technologies; all as an upgrade to the highly popular Ford Zephyr. It introduced the MacPherson strut suspension, providing a much more comfortable ride and improved handling. The next generation of the car was released as the Mark II in 1956. There were several new stylings included with the Zodiac to distinguish it from the current Ford Zephyrs. Features such as more elaborate tail-ends and a new grille for the front of the car, gave an added sense of beauty to this impressive vehicle. The Zodiac Mark II continued the tradition of two-tone paint and whitewall tyres, ensuring that the Zodiac was still instantly recognisable. The car boasted an impressive 87.9 mph and an improved acceleration of 0-60 mph in 17.1 seconds.
1962 saw the launch of the Mark III, which most famously included limousine style doors, along with a more defined roofline and tail. Again, a new grille design was included that featured four headlights instead of just two. More interior options were also offered, including more luxurious upholstery, new dashboard and a choice of exclusive trims. The Executive version was also available with a large range of added extras and luxurious options. Powered by a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder that gave an impressive 109 bhp, the new Ford Zodiac was a highly desirable car.
