 The Ford Mondeo is a modern classic; a motoring legend and true workhorse car that became popular with families and companies alike. The Ford Mondeo was first released in 1993 and it received generally good reviews even though there were a number of teething problems. There were originally three different versions available, from a five door hatchback or estate to a four door saloon, and the vehicle directly replaced the Sierra and the Telstar, ensuring that it had a hard task ahead to convince the legions of faithful fans that both cars had created! When it was first released the Ford Mondeo was the most expensive car to develop in history with costs standing a little over six billion USD, however it eventually sold so well that it helped Mondeo out financially and put an end to their financial crisis.
A newer version of the Ford Mondeo was launched in 1996. This Mk2 model was designed based around customer demand and also fixing various problems noted with the original design. The main customer problems with the Mk1 Ford Mondeo included poor headlights, poor legroom in the rear of the vehicle and also boring styling. The Mk2 aimed to address all of these however in order to save some money Ford cut a number of standard fittings on the Mondeo and made them optional extras instead. This did not prove to be a popular arrangement and two short years later the fittings were made standard again.
The Mk3 Ford Mondeo was developed in the late 1990's and was first released in 2000. Once again it built on previous models by fixing various small issues but it also featured a much larger amount of changes with many commenting that it looked almost like a brand new car. The styling of the car was changed completely with the Mk3 Ford Mondeo taking its cues from the popular Focus, and Ford managed to fix the poor rear legroom once and for all by increasing the wheelbase of the Mondeo. The poor diesel engine was also replaced with a completely new model and the car was also much safer to drive thanks to new technologies that were incorporated into the design.
The most recent version of the Ford Mondeo was unveiled in 2006 and offered for sale in 2007. It utilises the same platform as the Galaxy and S-Max that was designed by Volvo, and this version of the Ford Mondeo was well received with critics finding it hard to pick faults in something that has had so much refined development work over the years. Even the most basic trim level is comfortable whilst the top of the range and sportier trim levels transform the Mk4 Ford Mondeo and take it onto a whole new level of comfort and style. Ford also incorporated many new interior fixtures, fittings and technologies from the C-Max in their new Ford Mondeo and have aggressively marketed the vehicle in order to try to keep it one of the most popular vehicles on the road.
