Ford LTD Lightweight Breathable Car Cover
The Ford LTD is a unique car that was designed and sold in North America from 1965 through until 1991 when it was finally discontinued, something of a large legacy for a car to leave behind and it was loved by motorists and enthusiasts alike. Even though it was never sold in the UK a number were imported and now continue to traverse our roads and enjoy the attention and care that they deserve at classic car meets and enthusiast gatherings. There is a great deal of confusion regarding the actual LTD name; some argue that it stands for "Luxury Trim Decor", whilst others are adamant that it is something to do with the body style that the vehicle utilised. Many others are certain that it is simply a selection of random letters, whatever the case there is no denying that the Ford LTD is a classic vehicle that deserves all of the recognition it gets.
The original version of the Ford LTD was unveiled in 1965 and was quickly purchased by many. Originally it was simply a more luxurious model of the Ford Galaxie 500 that was designed to compete with more luxurious vehicles such as the Dodge Monaco and Chevrolet Caprice, however eventually the Ford LTD proved so popular that it was turned into a vehicle in its own right. As a luxury car the Ford LTD featured a tremendous number of fittings and options that later became commonplace on cheaper vehicles. Things such as electrically operated windows, power seats, powered brakes, power steering and air conditioning were first used on vehicles like the Ford LTD. In 1968 the vehicle was updated in order to modernise it, and once again in 1971 Ford decided to remodel the LTD somewhat in order to bring it more up to date.
The most modern version of the Ford LTD was designed and developed around the fox platform and it was simply a remodelling of the 1981/1982 Granada/Monarch that had not sold very well the previous year. Ford opted to use engineering components and methods from even older vehicles such as the Fairmont and Zephyr, and while this may seem unusual what it did do was gift the LTD with tremendous reliability, something this most recent version became famed for. Engine sizes varied from an economical 2.3 litre four cylinder to a gas guzzling but powerful 5.0 litre V8 monster for those who craved speed above all else.
