Ford KaThe Ford Ka is a unique little city car that has sold very well in various regions around the world, particuarly in the United Kingdom where it is one of the most popular city cars. Since it was first released in 1996 it has paved the way for a new generation of city cars by offering excellent value for money and as the years have passed Ford have been sure to update the Ka by adding more standard fixtures and fittings in order to keep the vehicle competitive. The Ford Ka was the best selling city car in the UK for many years and this success allowed Ford to produce different versions of the Ka, from the LuxuryKa that featured more refined and higher quality standard fittings through to the SportKa which, as the name suggests, is a more sports oriented model. The vehicle has received mixed reviews from both the press and the public with the appearance of the car polarising opinions one way or the other, despite this the car continues to sell very well.

The first, original version of the Ford Ka was unveiled in September 1996 as a new budget vehicle for Ford to sell across various global markets. As a city car it did not compete with the slightly larger supermini Fiesta that Ford were selling at the time, allowing the Ka to carve its own niche in this relatively new market. The Ka was designed and built from the same platform as the Fiesta Mk III (not the larger Mk IV that was already in production) however the similarities between the two vehicles ended here. This allowed Ford to complete most of the production for the Ka on existing Fiesta assembly lines without major re-tooling. When it was launched many praised the Ford Ka for its road handling (the grip was excellent and tuned steering gave a lot of feedback to the driver) however some critics pointed out that for a similar price a larger supermini class vehicle could be purchased that was faster, more spacious and in some cases offered better fuel economy. Despite this many loved the cute as a button styling of the Ka and it sold in droves with Ford being careful to offer a huge variety of optional extras for buyers to choose from when purchasing.

In 2008 a brand new Ford Ka was launched to replace the old model. This new version is a brand new vehicle that has been developed in close association with Fiat on the popular platform utilised by their Panda. Like all new Ford vehicles the Ka now features kinetic design as its main design inspiration, however the shape is still reminiscent of the old Ford Ka in many respects. As one might expect things such as Bluetooth, mp3 player compatibility, voice control and steering wheel controls are now available and initial reports for sales have been promising. The new Ford Ka recently featured in the film Quantum Of Solace as part of a marketing campaign designed to increase awareness of the new car.
