The Ford Granada is a popular vehicle that is a true workhorse and has proved popular with a variety of different markets across Europe, particularly in the UK. The Ford Granada was first unveiled in 1972 and it was designed to replace the Zephyr and Taunus in mainland Europe. Originally marketed as an executive car it proved to be an incredibly popular car, in fact the majority of taxis, company cars and even police vehicles on the road at one time were one type of Ford Granada or another. As with all vehicles from Ford as you may expect the Granada was available with a large variety of engines and gearboxes available from 2.0 to 3.0 litre, and it was also available as a two or four door saloon. Due to popular demand a five door estate and two door coupe were also introduced at a later date.
With so many corporate clients purchasing the Ford Granada and using it as a company car stocks were very soon depleted so the company used this as an opportunity to revitalise the brand with a make-over. This allowed the Ford Granada to compete with various other newer cars from other companies. Engines varied from 2.3 to 2.8 and whilst the maximum available capacity had decreased the new Cologne V6 engines were in fact much more reliable than the older Essex engines. This update of the Ford Granada included more modern technologies such as air conditioning as standard, and fuel injection was also included on the more expensive versions. A sports version of the Ford Granada was also released, this featured a spoiler and a 2.8 injected engine for extra power.
The Ford Granada went from strength to strength and continued to sell well to both private and corporate clients. In 1985 they decided to overhaul the Granada and rather than develop a new version they simply rebadged the Scorpio and a new Ford vehicle was created. This new Ford Granada was only offered for sale in the UK and Northern Ireland but Ford decided to continue the Scorpio name in a manner of speaking; they reserved it for the more exclusive and luxurious versions of the vehicle. Anti-locking brakes was one of the main innovations pioneered on the Ford Granada that have now entered common use in almost all vehicles and throughout the vehicles life it continued to be updated and receive the latest technologies.
