Ford Granada The Ford Granada is a vehicle that has a close association with the United Kingdom, for a time it was only produced and sold in the UK when German production ceased. When the Ford Granada was released in 1972 it replaced a number of popular vehicles including the Zephyr and Taunus and was intended to be the executive car for Europe. Originally early models were known as the Consul but by 1975 Ford dropped the name and adopted the Granada moniker. For many years the Ford Granada was one of the most popular vehicles on the road due to its popularity as a taxi, company car and also a police vehicle. There were a choice of different engines available for the Ford Granada including 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 litre capacities. The German models featured slightly lower rated engines from 1.7 to 3.0 litres. This first version of the Ford Granada was also available as a two and four door saloon or a five door estate and also a rather unique two door fastback coupe.

The Ford Granada had sold so well, especially to corporate clients, that it was eventually given an overhaul and restyled in order to modernise it and make it competitive with vehicles produced by other companies more recently. The choice of engines for this new Ford Granada varied from 2.3 to 2.8, these new units were Cologne V6's that were superior to the older Essex engines. Air conditioning and other modern features such as fuel injection were also offered to buyers for the first time in the life of the Ford Granada. The inevitable sports version of the Ford Granada was introduced as a 2.8 injected model that featured alloys and a spoiler on the rear of the vehicle. It was fitted out as one might expect a sportier version of a saloon car to be and proved very popular.

By 1985 the continuing success of the Ford Granada meant that a new version was required, Ford decided to rebadge the Scorpio and the new Granada was born. This version was sold only in the UK and Ireland and the Scorpio tag was reserved for the more top of the range and luxury versions in the line-up. This new Ford Granada also made history as the first European car fitted with anti-locking brakes as standard. The engine options that were available for the new Ford Granada included a 2.0 litre, 2.4 litre and a 2.8 litre. The Ford Granada continued to sell well in all of its various guises until it was discontinued and it became something of a very common sight on roads around Europe for many years.
