Ford Galaxy Heavy Duty Waterproof Car Covers
To date there have been three revisions of the Galaxy. The Ford Galaxy is a large, comfortable vehicle that was initially designed as a joint project between both Ford and Volkswagen in order to allow both companies to catch up with Renault and their popular Espace. SEAT also collaborated and three new vehicles were the result of this merging of ideas, the Galaxy, the Sharan from VW and the Alhambra from SEAT. The Ford Galaxy featured a large amount of its engineering taken straight from Volkswagen, such as the 2.8 litre engine taken from the Golf and also the 1.9 turbodiesel engine. Ford supplied engines as well, the Galaxy could also be powered by a 2.0 litre straight 4 or a 2.3 litre 16 valve. Much of the interior was taken from existing Ford vehicles making the Galaxy a true merging of ideas and concepts.
In 2000 Ford decided to redesign the Galaxy in order that the vehicle could be seen as very distinct, unique and separate from competitors. This makeover was almost total both inside and out, while the new outside was obviously Ford inspired the interior of the new Galaxy was built from much higher quality materials and it was reshaped and restyled based on customer demand. A variety of new engines were introduced for the Ford Galaxy from a 24 valve VR6, a new turbo diesel model, and various horsepower ratings from 115 bhp to 150 bhp. Gearboxes were available to match with the Ford Galaxy being sold with a choice of 6 speed manual or 4 or 5 speed automatic gearboxes. The most recent version of the vehicle was launched in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show and it was sold alongside the smaller S-Max. New technologies and design techniques have resulted in the new Ford Galaxy being much larger than previous versions, it is entirely designed by Ford with no input from other countries and with the introduction of the S-Max it allowed the company to expand the Galaxy and make it as large as possible without spoiling the handling or speed of the vehicle. Ford's new "kinetic design" aesthetic has been used on certain areas of the Galaxy, and all of the engines are taken straight from the Ford line-up and range from 99 bhp to 161 bhp. Four different levels of trim are available on the Ford Galaxy; these are Edge, Zetec, Ghia and Titanium.
