 The Ford Focus is a modern classic family car that is one of the most popular modern vehicles produced by the company. It was first released in 1998 for the European market and proved to be such a success that in 2000 it was released in North America, and once again it proved successful so it was released in Australia two years later. Uniquely the first generation of Ford Focus was so popular with motorists and there was such a demand for it that it is still produced alongside the MkII version for various markets around the world. A new MkII version of the car was released in 2005 and was actually rather different in terms of styling and engineering in some areas. The Ford Focus replaced the Escort and Laser across the world and it is now the 39th top selling vehicle with 5,000,000 units sold.
The original Ford Focus was destined to be called something rather different but eventually the name Focus was taken from a Ghia concept from 1991 that was shown off at the popular Geneva Motor Show. Ford used this new vehicle to combine various technologies that had been tried on other cars and bring them together into one new, neat, high technology package. New Edge styling was continued for the Ford Focus with aplomb and many reviewers have praised the styling choices made by the company when producing the vehicle. Most reviews of the Ford Focus have been very good with many comments being made about how easy the car is to drive and how comfortable it is for passengers.
The Focus sold so well that Ford decided to update the basic design and re-released the MkII version in 2004 at the Paris Motor Show. The saying of "if it isn't broke don't fix it" applies here and Ford were careful to keep everything that made the Focus good and only improve on the existing design rather than change the essence of the vehicle. The new Ford Focus is designed around the C1 platform and while many things changed various other parts such as the suspension were carried straight across with no modification. This new Ford Focus is actually larger in every dimension than the previous model and this has created even more space inside. The interior has also been updated with the latest technologies in order to make it a true car for the 21st century.
