The Ford Escort is by and large the most recognisable and most loved vehicle produced by the company, and it has proved to be an astounding success becoming the benchmark car in its class against which all others are measured. It proved to be a true workhorse that was loved by motorists and enthusiasts alike, and between the years of 1967 and 2003 it is amazing to think that there was always an Escort in production by Ford in some form or another. Whilst the Ford Escort was first launched in 1967 it was only demonstrated at a public show the next year at the Brussels Motor Show and it immediately grabbed the attention of the press and members of the public. Ford were facing an almost impossible task; they had to create a replacement that was just as useful and versatile as the much loved Anglia, and they certainly succeeded in this. Whilst the vehicle sold well in Europe and also in the US later in its life the UK proved to be the central market for the Ford Escort where it was loved by many and two million vehicles were sold in the first six years of the cars life.
