Ford Escort Lightweight Breathable Car Cover
The humble Ford Escort turned out to be an incredibly popular vehicle and one of Ford's best sellers of all time, it is indeed the most recognised and famous vehicle produced by the company and dominated the European market since its inception. From 1967 right through until 2003 there was a Ford Escort under production in various different guises, and even before this some Ford Anglias were sold as "Ford Anglia Escorts" so it is true to say that the vehicle has been around since the 1950's. The first true Ford Escort as we would recognise it was demonstrated at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968 even though it was offered for sale 12 months prior to this and it represented a direct replacement for the Anglia. The Anglia was already an incredibly popular vehicle so the new Ford Escort clearly had large shoes to fill. From the moment it launched in Britain it proved to be a runaway success and it also sold very well across the rest of Europe. It was eventually also marketed in the US where it also sold in large numbers however the main market was clearly the UK where the vehicle had acquired a large following of enthusiasts.
In fact the first version of the Ford Escort was so popular that two million vehicles were sold in just six years since it was released, a feat never seen before outside of the USA. The first Ford Escort was a standard rear wheel drive vehicle with either a standard four speed manual or a three speed automatic gearbox. Ford worked had to make the Escort reliable and while they did not use the most modern of technologies in developing the Escort many praised the addition of things such as leaf spring suspension as it aided in maintenance and kept costs down. Initially the vehicle was released just as a two door saloon but Ford quickly saw the potential of their new design so developed and released a new estate version in 1968, and a van version that followed closely behind. A four door saloon completed the long list of Ford Escorts available for sale.
The Escort continued selling very well throughout it's life until the final version of the car was unveiled in 1995. Whilst this new version was not a radical departure from the previous edition there were a number of substantial changes; the bonnet and body had been redesigned whilst the light fixtures, bumpers, mirrors and handles were all new. Ford also offered a choice of different radiator grilles for this new Escort and completely re-built the interior of the vehicle with new instruments and a new layout. Better suspension ensured that the Escort was more comfortable than ever before, and even better, stiffer suspension was included with the sportier versions in order to make the vehicle suitable for racing. One of the last variants of the Ford Escort ever produced was the Ghia X released in 1996, this luxury model was a favourite with motorists thanks to the addition of air conditioning and various other internal fittings. The van version of the vehicle was still in production in 2002, four years after the Focus supposedly replaced the Ford Escort.
