Ford Cortina Waterproof Half Cover
 The Ford Cortina is a family car that has attained the status of a true icon. It was in production from 1962 right through until 1982, even though it proved so popular that the last one did not leave a dealer until 1987. Ford had noticed how well the BMC Mini had sold so decided to pursue a similar strategy albeit aimed at a different corner of the market. The result of this concept was the Cortina MkI that was released in September 1962 and proved to be an immediate success with many buyers commenting on how good value for money the vehicle was. A string of good reviews praising the road handling, reliability, comfort and (of course) the interior space helped cement the reputation of the Ford Cortina as a major player on the family car market. Four years after it was released Ford decided that the Cortina was due an update so unveiled the MkII version of the vehicle. Even though this new Ford Cortina was shorter than the version it replaced interior space was actually larger due to some well thought out design decisions. The new brakes and clutch and softer suspension helped the car continue to sell well.
The next iteration of the famous Ford Cortina design was the MkIII version of the car. Ford decided to adopt a different strategy with the MkIII Cortina and decided to focus some of their marketing campaign on companies in the hope that they would place large bulk orders. This proved a good decision as the Ford Cortina MkIII became the staple company car for many years to come. For private buyers the new Cortina offered not just an upgrade from the previous version of the vehicle but the models with higher trim specifications and larger engines also offered a replacement for the Ford Thunderbird that had divided opinion so much when it was first released. Ford were also able to boast that once again this new Cortina featured even more interior space due to the wider body, and the only thing that hindered this car was the strike at one of the companies plants in 1971. It only took 12 months for the Ford Cortina to bounce back however and it was soon named the best selling car of the year.
When the MkIV Cortina was released it initially disappointed some as it was simply a re-badged version of the Ford Taunus, a fact not lost on many critics of the vehicle. This was however all part of the plan on Ford's part as they wanted to really try to sell the new Ford Cortina to businesses. Their concept proved sound and many businesses adopted the new Ford Cortina to replace older models; many appreciated the simplicity of the new vehicle and the fact that it was not simply the old vehicle with more bells and whistles. In September 1979 the final MkV version of the Ford Cortina was launched and this proved to be a major success. The vehicle was almost completely redesigned with almost every aspect of it being tweaked, changed, or altered in some way, yet Ford still managed to capture the essence of everything that was special with the Cortina. The popularity of the Cortina cannot be understated; even though production ceased in 1982 vehicles were still being sold from Ford dealers by 1987 even though newer more modern cars were available.
