Ford Cortina Lightweight Breathable Car Cover
 The Ford Cortina is a popular vehicle that was loved by many and for a time it was by far the most common and popular vehicle on UK roads. It went from strength to strength throughout its life and proved to be an exceptional success for Ford. The Cortina MkI was spurred into existence by the BMC Mini; Ford saw how well it was selling for BMC so decided to approach a different market with similar tactics, in this case the family car market. The first Cortina MkI was offered for sale in September 1962 and by 1964 Ford had decided that the Cortina was selling so well that it needed updating. The MkI continued for another two years before being updated to MkII standard, this new Ford Cortina being designed by Roy Haynes. When it was released in 1966 it received excellent reviews and many praised the fact that Ford had managed to increase interior space. The new Cortina featured a whole host of upgrades to make driving much pleasurable.
The next model of Cortina to be unveiled was the MkIII that was designed by Ford to sell in huge numbers. In order to meet expected demand Ford took great care to ensure that their manufacturing capacity would not be over stretched. The Cortina MkIII sold exceptionally well to businesses with companies buying up whole fleets of the car in order to offer company cars to their employees. The Cortina MkIII also replaced the opinion dividing Corsair as well as its own previous model and Ford offered a tremendous variety of fixtures and fittings from the budget oriented right through to the luxurious in order to meet the demand for a higher end vehicle. With the new MkIII Ford Cortina interior space was yet again increased by widening the car, and the only blip on the horizon proved to be a strike at Ford's Dagenham plant that hindered production by as much as 100,000 units. By 1972 however the MkIII Cortina had redeemed itself for Ford; it was named the best selling car of the year in the UK.
When Ford designed the MkIV Cortina they deliberately made it more conventional in order to appeal more to the business market; it was felt that more company related bulk orders would be placed as directors would appreciate the simplicity of the new vehicle. Many did note that the new Ford Cortina was actually just a re-branded Taunus, despite this it proved to be a good seller mostly thanks to its wide variety of fittings and engines that allowed the customer a host of options not available on any other vehicle. The final version of the Ford Cortina was released in 1979 and this new MkV version was a huge upgrade that brought the Cortina into the 80's with style. Ford had almost completely changed the body shape and had also tweaked the grille in order to improve aerodynamics. The windscreen was replaced to allow a larger viewing area, the roof was flattened out, the C pillars were redesigned, new lights were added, almost everything was tweaked in some way on the new Ford Cortina.
