Ford ClassicThe Ford Classic is a unique vehicle that was sold as a mid sized family oriented car between the years of 1961 and 1963. It came with a choice of two or four doors and was available in both a standard and a deluxe version. The deluxe version of the Ford Classic featured a choice of floor or column gear sticks and it is often referred to as the 109E. A number of engines were available for the Ford Classic, from 1340 cc to 1500 cc, and the Ford Classic set something of a trend for Fords in general in that it was one of the first vehicles to be offered with a  tremendous choice of fixtures and fittings, drive sides, colours, and optional extras.

The Ford Classic was originally marketed at a more discerning customer, indeed Ford made a selling point of the fact that the Classic would comfortably accommodate a golf bag complete with clubs. The vehicle itself was somewhat out of date when it first entered the market, it was supposed to be launched earlier but the Anglia was proving to be such a runaway success that all of the companies manufacturing might was too busy producing this instead. Although the Classic was very similar to the Anglia in outward appearance they were in fact very different vehicles; the former was much longer, wider and heavier and featured more luxurious fixtures and fittings. Ford also introduced a number of things on the vehicle that were experimental at the time but that have since become standard on all cars such as headlight flashers and windscreen wipers with a variable speed setting.

The boot of the Ford Classic was exceptionally large for a vehicle of its size making the vehicle popular for use by businessmen. From an engineering standpoint the Classic was very similar to the Anglia, Ford utilised the same Kent engines and the synchromesh gearbox was also included later in the vehicles life. Many reviewers at the time commented on how impressive the handling of the vehicle actually was. In 1963 the short lived Ford Classic was replaced by the Corsair, however in just two years over 111,000 Classics had been sold including a number of exceptionally rare esate versions.
