The Ford C-Max is a unique car produced by the Ford company solely for the European market since it was introduced in 2003. As a compact MPV the C-Max was the first vehicle based around Ford's own C1 platform that was later utilised by the second version of the Focus and also the Mazda 5. The C-Max is the smallest multi purpose vehicle that Ford produce, the S-Max and Galaxy are both larger. The C-Max has proved a popular vehicle, so much so that Ford introduced a newer version in 2006 at the motor show in Bologna.
It was met with critical acclaim and was released on sale in 2007 and the updated design echoed more modern vehicles produced by Ford, what they term "Kinetic Design". The C-Max is not fully in sync with this new design philosophy, rather it has been modified to incorporate elements of it. One of the main selling points of the Ford C-Max is that it will comfortably seat five passengers and still be able to pack in various types of cargo and luggage. The carrying capacity of the C-Max can be increased by folding the various rear seats completely flat facilitating easy access to the rear of the vehicle. Ford have also released a version of the C-Max that features diagonally sliding rear seats.
Technologically the Ford C-Max contains many features from the Focus such as the control blade independent rear suspension and the choice of engines (1.6, 1.8, 2.0 litre petrol and 1.8 litre flexifuel, or a 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 litre diesel). Various fixtures and fittings are available for the Ford C-Max across the various different levels of vehicle, from the entry level Studio through the Style, Zetec and top class Titanium model. Originally the vehicle was marketed as a Focus but later the Focus moniker was dropped completely and it became a vehicle in its own right.
