The Ferrari 348 is a V8 powered, mid engined rear wheel drive 2 seat thoroughbred developed to replace the 328. The Ferrari 348 is seen as one of the most iconic Ferrari's, in many ways it captured the public imagination and was seen as a major status symbol and one of the most sought after vehicles on the road throughout the early 90's. The Ferrari 348 featured a naturally aspirated 3.4 litre engine that was taken from the 288 sports vehicle. It was capable of outputting 300 hp and was mounted longitudinally.
The 348 came as either a coupe or targa and Ferrari ensured that some of the latest and most up to date technology was included in the design such as computer control, anti-locking brakes, traction control and launch control. Even the air conditioning system featured computer control and engine management systems were commonplace. The Ferrari 348 featured a suspension that was independently adjustable for maximum performance or comfort as the owners needs dictated. The unique stylings of the Ferrari 348 won many supporters, the car looked angular and sleek but muscled and aggressive thanks to the unique size scoops and intakes.
The Ferrari 348 was upgraded in 1993 with a number of small changes to the outward appearance of the vehicle and the engine was also tweaked to produce slightly more power from the same engine. These newer Ferrari 348 vehicles were known as the GTB and GTS and they were much easier and more precise to drive thanks to improvements in handling and comfort. There was also a convertible version that proved exceptionally popular in the US market, this replaced the Mondial Cabriolet.
