The 911 has been one of the most popular cars that Porsche produce and is one of the most famous and distinctive vehicles to grace the roads in the 20th century. The Porsche 911 was very notable when it was first produced for being an affordable rear engined sports car and it has seen almost constant development making the modern Porsche 911 a unique vehicle that packs the latest technologies and innovations with a stunning lineage and sense of history. The first version of the car was designed as a replacement for the popular Porsche 356 and was originally to be designated the 901, and when production began in 1964 it was the first real alternative to the E-Type Jaguar. The 911 Carerra RS model was produced in 1973 and 1974 and is one of the most popular models with collectors. Compared to the standard Porsche 911 the Carerra RS had a larger engine, newer suspension that was much stiffer than what was previously available, a new rear spoiler, larger more efficient brakes, wide rear wheels and new rear fenders. They also produced a model with a Bosch fuel injection system that was almost twice as expensive as the previous model but was seen as a viable geniuine track-worthy racing car. This version of the Porsche 911 went on to win several major races in the 1970's and a modified version also took second place at the Le Mans 24 hour rally in 1974. Sports Car International listed the Porsche 911 in third place on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960's, the Carrerra RS was seventh on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970's, and the Porsche 911 Carerra was number seven in the same poll for the 1980's. The vehicle also took second place in Automobile Magazine when they completed a list of the "100 Coolest Cars".
