The Bentley Turbo R is a much loved vehicle from this most luxurious of car manufacturers, it is widely acclaimed as one of the vehicles responsible for revitalising and reinventing the brand and bringing the company well into the era of modern car creation. The Bentley Turbo R utilised the chassis from the Mulsanne and took its unique turbocharged engine from the Mulsanne Turbo. This engine was then given some tender loving care by Bentley in an effort to make it as powerful as possible; a new Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection system added lots of torque to the delight of drivers.

The Bentley Turbo R is also the first vehicle from the company to sport wide tires and alloy wheels, another sign of the cars pioneering nature, paving the way for future vehicles. Motor Trend magazine commented that the Turbo R was "the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name." Even though the vehicle is very heavy the tuned and optimised suspension made it feel very light and perform well under power.

The addition of tuned dampers increased performance further and the R Type also benefited by the introduction of a Panhard rod to reduce movement and sway when cornering. Bentley never prodvided any official verified figures but it is believed that power output stands at almost 300 bhp. The Bentley Turbo R took position in the luxurious car line-up between the Mulsanne S and the Silver Spu.
