The Bentley Flying Spur is a special and unique version of the famous Continental GT coupe and also the GTC convertible version. Bentley have worked hard to make the Flying Spur extra special and seperate it from other vehicles in the Continental line-up; it features a much longer wheelbase than its sibling vehicles and four full sized doors making it perfect for use as en executive vehicle of limousine. Bentley released the Flying Spur in 2005 and it actually took the accolade of being the fastest four door vehicle produced by Bentley.
The Flying Spur is powered by a 6.0 litre twin turbocharged W12 beast of an engine that develops 552 bhp allowing the heavy and aerodynamically inefficient Flying Spur to reach a massive 195 mph. The Bentley Flying Spur is fully four wheel drive and is based on the popular Volkswagen Group D platform allowing it to share a number of components from the VW Phaeton. This has resulted in improved reliability in many areas and it has helped launch the vehicle to a mass audience in a way never thought possible with such a prestigious vehicle.
Initially Bentley intended to manufacture the Flying Spur completely in-house in their own factory in Crewe. An exceptionally large amount of demand for the vehicle meant that for a short period vehicles intended for the US and UK markets had to be built by Volkswagen at their Dresden facility, however this has now been rectified and all Flying Spur Bentley vehicles have been created in Crewe. In 2009 Bentley plan to launch a 600 bhp version capable of breaking the 200 mph barrier.
