The Flying Spur is a unique and luxurious version of the Continental GT coupe and GTC convertible. What sets the Flying Spur apart from other Continental type vehicles produced by Bentley is that it features a full four doors and a longer wheelbase making it perfect for use as a limousine. The Flying Spur was first released by Bentley in 2005 and it is the fastest four door vehicle ever produced by the company.
A large 6.0 litre twin turbocharged W12 engine powers the Bentley Flying Spur. It produces 552 bhp propelling the Flying Spur to a maximum speed of 195 mph, and up to top speed traction is excellent thanks to the four wheel drive system installed by Bentley. Since many of the technical components are identical to those used in the VW Phaeton (the vehicle itself is based on the Volkswagen Group D platform) reliability is never and issue and the vehicle itself has helped launch Bentley to a whole new generation.
The Flying Spur was intended to be solely developed at the companies factory in Crewe however large demand meant that vehicles produced for the UK and USA are now manufactured at Volkswagen's factory in Dresden in Germany for a time, however this changed in 2006 when Bentley upgraded their Crewe facility and since then all Flying Spur vehicles have been produced in the one location. A version is planned with 600 bhp and a top speed of 200 mph in 2009.
