Bentley Corniche Heavy Duty Waterproof Car Cover

The Bentley Corniche was actually developed by Rolls Royce but sold under the Bentley name, as well as under the Rolls Royce name. The Corniche was a coupe and convertible version of the Silver Shadow and it was produced and offered for sale between 1971 and 1996. Technically the Bentley Corniche only existed until 1984 as this was when the vehicle adopted the Continental name whilst Rolls Royce continued marketing it as the Corniche. These confusing histories occur often with Bentley and Rolls Royce but do not detract from how stunning the vehicles produced by both companies are.

The unique exterior of the Bentley Corniche was designed by John Polwhele Blatchley and went on to prove to be a pioneering success, shaping future generations of Bentleys for years to come. The Bentley Corniche was powered by the standard Rolls Royce V8 engine that provided ample power for the rather large and heavy vehicle. As standard a 3 speed automatic gearbox and four wheel disk brakes provided more than enough stopping power when the brake pedal was depressed. In 1979 Rolls Royce extended the wheelbase of the Bentley Corniche by an extra half an inch in an effort to increase rear leg room and passenger comfort. Even though Bentley were not involved in the redesigning process the vehicle was changed to become the Corniche II in 1986.

The upgrade involved upgrading the bumpers, radiator and oil cooler along with fitting anti-lock brakes and other safety features. Again Bentley were not involved in the Corniche III but it is still a vehicle worthy of note; it was introduced in 1989 and now featured air bags as standard and a number of other safety features along with new internal look. The final version of the non Bentley Corniche was the mark IV version produced in Crewe and featuring a glass rear window and new top mechanism. New air conditioning was also installed that was completely CFC free. The Bentley and Rolls Royce Corniche are stunningly luxurious vehicles and hold a vital place in the history of both companies.
