 The Bentley Azure is a luxurious four seat convertible constructed at the companies main factory in Crewe. The Azure was first released in 1995 and while it is based on the Continental design there is no denying that Bentley have produced a stunning, unique and luxurious vehicle. The Bentley Azure continued through until 2003 when it was given a major overhaul with many updated parts and new technologies being incorporated into the design. The Azure is a tremendous vehicle to behold, it is far larger than many of its contemporaries as it is designed to comfortably seat four adults in absolute luxury.
Bentley chose to utilise the companies standard 6.75 litre V8 engine in conjunction with a single turbocharger that allowed it to output 400 bhp and a tremendous amount of torque, and it was connected using a 4 speed automatic transmission. Considering it has such poor aerodynamics the Bentley Azure is surprisingly agile, the 0 to 60 mph time is a mere 6.1 seconds. One of the reasons for the exceptionally high cost of the Bentley Azure is that the powered and convertible top was designed by Pininfarina rather than by Bentley themselves. This pushed the price of the Azure far higher than any other vehicles based on the Continental platform. As with all vehicles from Bentley the customer can choose from a large range of bespoke options whilst their car is being constructed, as a result the price of each unit varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle.
From 2006 the Azure was redesigned and the Continental platform was replaced with the Arnage platform, and the new turbocharged V8 producing 450 bhp ensures that it is just as powerful as the Mark I version. In a change from traditional the new Bentley Azure also features a 6 speed automatic transmission and an improved 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds. Fuel economy is as one might expect; between 9 and 15 miles per US gallon making it the most inefficient car in its class. Many would argue that the extra running costs are well worth it when one considers the sublime luxury that the vehicle offers. The audio system of the Bentley Azure has also been updated, it is now fully iPod compatible and features a 10 speaker setup and also the ability to read various music formats from an SD memory card.
