 The Bentley Arnage is a vehicle with a special place in motoring history as the first new car that Bentley designed since 1980. It was built at the companies main factory in Crewe and is a thoroughly modern car that was sold between the years of 1998 and 2009. The Arnage also represented the first car produced by the company that was not powered by the traditional powerplant, instead they opted to utilise a BMW sourced V8 featuring twin turbos for extra power, and that power is very much needed when one considers the massive size of the Arnage, it is over five metres long and weighs in at more than two and a half tonnes. Despite the extra size and bulk this unique vehicle from Bentley was the fastest four door saloon on the market for a time.
As with most vehicles from the Bentley stable the Arnage is packed with lots of features that would normally be optional extras on other cars. A standard entry level Arnage will include such innovations and delights as voice activated satellite navigation, climate control, massaging powered front seats complete with a heating or cooling feature, a remote engine start, DVD players in the front seat backs for the rear seats to enjoy and Bentley has even included the most luxurious hand crafted steering wheel found on a motor vehicle. The optional extras that Bentley offered on the Arnage certainly could not be found anywhere else, delights such as heated or chilled cupholders and door closing assistance are considered extras from Bentley.
Bentley released the Arnage RL in 2001. This unique version of the vehicle featured a far longer wheelbase allowing it to be purchased as a stunning limousine. The Arnage RL was actually only available as a custom order direct from Bentley and it was packed with customisable options for the buyer to choose when purchasing. The Arnage RL is seen by motoring critics as the vehicle that, in effect, saved Bentley. It solved many of the reliability issues the company had experienced with engine performance and reliability thanks to a re-built engine with more than half of the components replaced with upgraded versions and a brand new engine management system.
