astonmartinlagonda1.jpgThe Aston Martin Lagonda represents a major design change compared to previous vehicles; this luxury four door saloon car was constructed between 1976 and 1989 for the price of £150,000 at the time. The origins of the Lagonda focus around the mid-70's when Aston Martin was running out of funds and faced the potential end of their business. As a result the company decided to break out and try something other than their regular 2+2 sports cars and it proved an immediate success, the Aston Martin Lagonda took a large number of immediate orders helping bring the company back into the black.

The styling of the Lagonda was the brainchild of William Towns and to this day it divides people; some think it is stunning whilst others find it ugly. At the time the Lagonda from Aston Martin was one of the most expensive saloon cars in the world, only being beaten by some models from Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maserati. The vehicle actually proved so popular than Aston Martin gave it a number of updates throughout its lifetime, some of which focused on functionality whilst others focused on aesthetics such as the "facelift" the model received in the 1980's. For lovers of cars the Aston Martin Lagonda represents a technological milestone; it was the first production vehicle that utilised both a digital instrument panel and a computer management system, and the second version of the vehicle used cathode ray tube instruments rather than LED displays. The interior of the Lagonda was designed by Aston Martin to represent the finest in luxury and finery and even though the engineering of the vehicle was less than sound it has entered the annals of history thanks to the technological trail it forged.
