The Aston Martin DBS has recently been given a re-launch, the modern Aston Martin DBS is based on the DBR9 and takes the place of the Vanquish at the top of the companies list of cars offered for public sale. The same engine that powers the DBR9 sits underneath the bonnet of the DBS and it has been tweaked, refined and tuned to output 510 bhp and a number of new technologies have been incorporated such as automatic air inlets and cooling ducts. The new Aston Martin DBS is the flagship vehicle for James Bond in the latest movies in the franchise, and only 300 models have been produced by the company for sale making it an immediate classic with collectors and enthusiasts.
The original Aston Martin DBS was a stunning grand tourer that was produced in 1967. Production continued through until 1972 and like it's newer cousin the old original Aston Martin DBS also featured in the James Bond mythology appearing in a variety of films directly involved with or relating to the franchise. The DBS was designed by Aston Martin to replace the popular DB6 however the DB6 itself was tremendously popular so for a time the company produced both vehicles side by side in order to meet customer demand.
The original Aston Martin DBS was powered by a 282 bhp straight six engine allowing it to meet comparitively high top speeds for the period. The DBS was a heavier and larger car than the DB6, this was a concious design choice by Aston Martin in order to emphasise how much more luxurious the new vehicle was compared to it's older sibling. The Vantage version of the vehicle featured a tweaked and refined engine that boosted output to 325 bp allowing higher top speeds to be reached despite the extra size and weight of the vehicle.
