astonmartindb71.jpgThe Aston Martin DB7 was produced from 1994 until 2003 and marked something of a radical departure in terms of aesthetics and styling compared to cars from the same company that had come before. The DB7 is a luxurious sporty grand tourer that was unveiled to an eager crowd at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1993 and Aston Martin created it in both coupe or convertible versions. The Aston Martin DB7 formed the basis of the companies "entry" model that was more affordable in price compared to the custom designed V8 Virage that was released a few years prior to the DB7 unveiling.

Aston Martin produced what has been described by many as a timeless classic with more than 7,000 being sold over the cars lifetime until it was replaced by the DB9. The Aston Martin DB7 was created with the financial assistance of Ford who had owned the company since 1988 and also with the help of Jaguar, hence why the design bears some similarities to the Jaguar XJS. Every Aston Martin DB7 was produced at the new factory in Bloxham in Oxfordshire and they were all created utilising a steel construction technique created by Jaguar; previously all Astons were made from aluminium.

In 1996 the convertible Volante version of the Aston Martin DB7 was released to critical acclaim. Like the hard top it was powered by a 335 bhp supercharged straight 6. This was replaced by a 6.0 litre V12 in 1999 when the V12 Vantage version of the DB7 was unveiled by Aston Martin. This engine produced 420 bhp and gives the vehicle a top speed of 186 mph. This version proved so popular that production of the standard model with the 335 bhp straight 6 ended in 1999. 2002 saw the launch of the V12 GT/GTA model (the A signifying an automatic transmission). This version introduced new stylings thanks to a redesigned bonnet, grille and boot, along with new wheels and unique carbon fibre trim.
