astonmartindb71.jpgThe Aston Martin DB7 is seen as something of a milestone for the company by motoring enthusiasts, it marked a complete revision in the visual appearance of the cars along with a variety of other changes that distinctly altered the public perception of Aston Martin. The DB7 was offered for sale from 1994 until 2003 and was first released at the 1993 Geneva Motor show. The immediate reaction was positive from both the public and the press, the new grand tourer DB7 formed the basis of the entry level vehicles from the company. The lower price when compared to other vehicles such as the V8 Virage helped public perception of the Aston Martin DB7.

The Aston Martin DB7 has proved to be what has been termed a "timeless classic" and the company has sold over 7,000 of this vehicle and would have continued to sell many more were it not for the release of the DB9. The DB7 was developed with funds from the Ford Motor Company who had owned Aston Martin since 1988, and Jaguar also helped in the creation of the vehicle, hence why some of the styling bears a passing resemblance to the XJS. Jaguar also contributed knowledge and methodology, Aston Martin produced the DB7 with an all steel construction, a technique that was developed by Jaguar.

With the Aston Martin DB7 selling so well a Volante (convertible) was released. It was powered by the same engine as the hard top version and soon after the company produced a V12 Vantage version with an engine that produced 420 bhp and allowed the car to reach a top speed of 186 mph. The Vantage sold so well that Aston Martin ceased production of the standard model, instead choosing to focus on the higher performance version of the DB7.
