From 1994 until 2003 the Aston Martin DB7 lead the companies line-up and this luxurious grand tourer helped revolutionise the more modern vehicles produced by the company. It is easy to see how radical the design of the Aston Martin DB7 must have seemed when it was first released at the Geneva Motor Show, however it proved to be an immediate success loved by motorists and industry insiders alike. Both a coupe and convertible version of the Aston Martin DB7 were offered for sale while the vehicle was in production.
As the companies "entry" level vehicle the Aston Martin DB7 was priced cheaper than other vehicles such as the custom built V8 Virage and it has been termed a "modern design classic" by many, still today when compared alongside more modern offerings from the company it looks stylish, modern and contemporary. Aston Martin have sold more than 7,000 individual DB7 cars and there is no doubt it would still be a popular seller today had it not been replaced by the DB9. The vehicle was created with finances from the Ford Motor company and also with the design expertise of Jaguar, hence why it bears a passing similarity to the XJS. The DB7 was also the first Aston Martin to be produced at their new Bloxham manufacturing plant and using the Jaguar developed all steel construction (previous models of Aston Martin utilised large amounts of aluminium in the construction).
The Aston Martin DB7 was also produced in a convertible version that was offered for sale from 1996 and like its solid roofed brother it was powered by a straight six that produced 335 bhp. When the V12 Vantage version of the DB7 was released by Aston Martin the engine was upgraded to a 6.0 litre V12 that was capable of producing 420 bhp. This was so popular with customers that Aston Martin actually discontinued the standard version of the DB7 to concentrate on the V12 version and the GT/GTA versions that followed.
